12/29/2021

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), obesity rates have nearly tripled since 1975. As the need for weight management programs continues to increase, Hannibal Regional Medical Group and Weight Management Solutions continue to grow to meet the needs of our community. Mujeeb Siddiqui, DO, FACOS, FASMBS, the medical director of Weight Management Solutions and HRMG, is excited to announce that Richie Goriparthi, MD, MSc, has joined their team.

Dr. Goriparthi has a long-standing interest in bariatrics, with specific focus on minimally invasive and robotic surgery techniques that are evident throughout his career. He went to medical school in the Ukraine and completed his Master’s Degree in London where he conducted extensive research focused on bariatric surgery. He completed his general surgery residency at Brown University, an Ivy League school in Rhode Island. He then went on to pursue additional fellowship training in robotic and bariatric surgery at Abington Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University in Pennsylvania.

Weight Management Solutions consists of a team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, physical therapists, and professional staff that evaluate and counsel patients on their weight loss journey.

“Our goal is not just to help people lose weight but also to help our patients live better, healthier, and longer,” says Dr. Siddiqui. Weight loss surgery is a major decision, there are many things that must be considered by both the surgeon and the patient before moving forward with the procedure. The surgery can contribute to significant weight loss and improvement of obesity-related health problems, but the patient must be committed to make behavioral and dietary changes to achieve lasting weight loss results.

Weight loss surgery is not cosmetic surgery. The World Health Organization (WHO), along with national and international medical and scientific societies, now recognize obesity as a chronic progressive disease resulting from multiple environmental and genetic factors. “It is a life-saving procedure. Successful weight loss surgery often results in better mobility, more energy, and greater confidence. The true goal of the surgery, however, is to restore our patients’ health,” says Dr. Siddiqui.

Dr. Siddiqui and Dr. Goriparthi are board certified in general surgery and fellowship trained in robotic and bariatric surgery. Both physicians have extensive training and experience performing minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and robotic bariatric surgical procedures which include: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, Sleeve gastrectomy, Bilio-pancreatic duodenal switch and revisional procedures.  To learn more about your medical or surgical weight loss options visit hannibalregional.org/weightmanagementsolutions or to schedule an appointment with Weight Management Solutions call (888) 327-4747.
