What is Urology?

Urology is the branch of medicine concerned with the urinary tract in both genders, and with the genital tract or reproductive system in the male. Urogenital is a word that refers to the urinary and genital organs.

The medical specialty of obstetrics and gynecology focuses on the reproduction (genital) system of females. Nephrology is the medical specialty concerned with the kidneys.

The most serious and debilitating of benign kidney and urinary tract diseases includes end-stage renal disease (ESRD); kidney stone disease; urinary incontinence; benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH); interstitial cystitis; urinary tract infection; and polycystic kidney disease.

Other diseases also have a tremendous impact on the disability and death associated with kidney and urologic diseases, including diabetes and hypertension.

It is the only leading enlarged prostate procedure that does not require heating, cutting, or destruction of prostate tissue.

Advantages of UroLift®:

  • Safe and effective
  • Risk profile better than reported for surgical procedures such as TURP
  • Rapid symptom relief, better than reported for medications
  • Only leading BPH procedure shown to not cause new and lasting sexual dysfunction

How the UroLift® System Works:

UroLift System 1

STEP 1: The UroLift® Delivery Device is placed through the obstructed urethra to access the enlarged prostate.

UroLift System 2

STEP 2: Small UroLift® implants are permanently placed to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way and increase the opening of the urethra. The permanent implants are delivered through a small needle that comes out of the UroLift Delivery Device and into the prostate.

UroLift System 3

STEP 3: The UroLift® System treatment provides quick symptom relief by opening the obstructed urethra.
