Marilyn Tucker decided to join Hannibal Regional Auxiliary in 1991 after retiring from her career with Social Security. With a lifelong love for sewing, especially quilting, she chose to volunteer with the Sewing Committee.
For the past 34 years, Marilyn has spent time each week laughing, making memories, and sharing many of her incredible life stories among friends while sewing. The Hannibal Regional Auxiliary Sewing Committee meets every Monday morning to create lace baptismal baby bonnets, which are gifted to every baby born at Hannibal Regional. Over the years, Marilyn has lovingly hand-sewn about 4,500 of these sweet baby bonnets. Marilyn is not only known for her witty sense of humor and incredible sewing skills, but also for her world-famous carrot cake, which is a very sought out baked item at bake sales benefiting Hannibal Regional Auxiliary.
At 94 years young, Marilyn has made the decision that it is time to turn in her volunteer vest and retire from her service with the Auxiliary. While she may be stepping away from volunteering, Marilyn keeps busy spending time with her loving family. She is the proud grandmother of four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Continuing her family’s connection to Hannibal Regional, two of her grandchildren are providers at Hannibal Regional, Dr. James Tucker in Family Practice and Megan Kretz, NP, in Otolaryngology.
“My favorite thing about being an Auxiliary member has been spending time with the sewing ladies. The group has changed over the years, but I have always enjoyed the ladies company and have met the best of friends,” Marilyn shared.
Hannibal Regional Auxiliary is so grateful to Marilyn for the countless hours of service she has given. Her kindness, generosity, and willingness to volunteer and be involved has touched so many lives.
Marilyn’s fellow sewers agree they will deeply miss seeing her each week and hearing her life stories, but they remain hopeful she will stop by from time to time for a visit. The Sewing Committee with Hannibal Regional Auxiliary is always looking for volunteers to join their group.
