“The care at Hannibal Regional was incredible. Everyone, from the doctors to the staff, was top-notch.”
In early 2024, Don Gull of Farmington, Iowa began experiencing worsening PVCs but faced a six-month wait for care elsewhere, prompting him to contact the Hannibal Regional Heart Center—where he was seen within days. Under the care of Dr. Santhosh Mannem and cardiac electrophysiologist Dr. Santhisri Kodali, testing revealed not only the need for an ablation but also a critical 80% blockage in Don’s “widowmaker” artery and severe restenosis of prior stents, requiring open heart surgery. Performed successfully on July 17, 2024, by cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Jose Torres, the surgery and post-operative care exceeded Don’s expectations, especially compared to his past experiences at larger hospitals. Just two months later, Don returned to work with renewed energy, walking regularly and feeling “ten times better,” while continuing follow-up care at Hannibal Regional. His experience underscores the life-saving importance of timely access to expert, compassionate heart care—and the difference it can make in a patient’s quality of life.
