After years of emotional eating and not having a good understanding of nutrition Jessica Bauman, of New London, Missouri says her weight had crept to over 300 pounds. Jessica describes, “At that weight, I couldn’t keep up with my three very active sons, I was always physically exhausted, and it had taken a huge toll on me mentally and emotionally.” Jessica had contemplated having obesity surgery for years. She had even gone as far as scheduling the procedure in Columbia, Missouri, but after struggling to make it through their mandatory liquid diet she ultimately backed out two days before surgery.

Becky Buckman of Stoutsville, MO had struggled with extreme acid reflux and heartburn for 16 years following an accident which led to abdominal trauma. Becky’s daughter is a nurse at Hannibal Regional Medical Group and they were discussing her symptoms when Dr. Richie Goriparthi’s name was suggested. Dr. Goriparthi is a general and robotic surgeon with Hannibal Regional Medical Group and Becky decided to schedule a consultation with him.

Robotic surgery procedures often lead to quicker recovery, less pain, and shorter hospital stays. Hannibal resident Blane Mundle recently had a robotic cholecystectomy, recovered quickly, and was able to get back to what he enjoys. When Blane woke up in the middle of the night with intense pain and vomiting he decided to head to the Emergency Room at Hannibal Regional. After initial testing, it was discovered that Blane had over 20 gallstones and would need to have his gallbladder removed.
