How it works
The robotic procedures are done using The da VinciĀ® Robotic Surgical System. The da VinciĀ® robot is a surgical assistance tool that enables bariatric surgeons to perform weight loss surgery using computer-guided, magnified, 3-D visualization. Robotic-assisted surgery provides surgeons with much improved visualization and greater dexterity, and it's a less invasive approach compared to traditional open surgeries. During a robotic gastric surgery, surgeons make a few small incisions in the abdomen and are assisted by a robotic platform to help perform the surgery. A camera enables the surgeon to see inside the body while using tools to complete the gastric surgery.
Benefits of Robotic Bariatric Surgery
Your surgeon is 100% in control throughout your surgery. The robotic system gives surgeons:
- Enhanced vision, precision and control
- Wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand
- Smaller incisions, leaving fewer scars and reducing the risk of infection
- Low rate of gastrointestinal leaks
- Shorter hospital stay
- Low risk of needing follow-up surgery
