Hannibal Regional Medical Group physican’s Dr. Purvi Parikh, endocrinologist and Dr. Priyanka Yerragorla, internal medicine have been certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) to offer patients a non-surgical option for weight loss.
Obesity has been officially recognized as a disease by the American Medical Association since 2013. There are many causes of obesity; genetics, environmental, behavioral, and physiologic factors all play an important role. Every patient is different, for every person obesity can be caused by the intertwining of these etiologies.
The medical weight loss program is a 360-degree evaluation of the many factors that contribute to a patient's weight. Dr. Parikh and Dr. Yerragorla take the time to understand these parts of a patient's history with weight gain and loss and with this information in mind they develop a comprehensive and personalized treatment plan to help patients with the management of their weight. Their goal is to help patients make healthier choices and provide them with tools to keep the weight off.

This program is for patients who:
- Have a serious medical problem linked to obesity, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
- Have successfully lost weight but have a hard time keeping extra weight off.
- Are not interested in or are not candidates for weight loss surgery.
